Summer is finally here! And while you might be enjoying the summer sun and getting a bit of a tan outside, it is important that you take very good care of your hair when the sun is beating down.
While getting enough sun exposure is extremely healthy and beneficial for your mental and physical health, it can really do some damage to your hair and scalp.
Here are some great ways that you can better protect your hair and scalp this summer…
• Cover your hair: Even though wearing hats can cause your hair and scalp to become oily and sweaty during the summer, wearing a hat or covering your hair is a sure fire way to protect your head. This is important if you plan to be out in the sun for extended periods of time, such as laying by the pool or going on a hike.
• Use a leave-in conditioner: Leave-in conditioner is a great option to strengthen your hair, especially in the summer. Since elongated sun exposure can leave your strands brittle and dry, using a leave-in conditioner, and even better if you find one with UV protection, can help to rejuvenate your hair so that it continues to shine and be strong.
• Do not wash your hair as regularly: While it is suggested that you do not wash your hair every day, this little tips helps out even more so in the summer sun. The natural oils from your scalp act as a natural protectant from the sun’s harsh rays, meaning that the more you wash your hair, the more likely you are to strip these protective, healthy oils off of your scalp.
• Put some sunscreen on your scalp: If you part your hair, then you know what a sunburn right along your part feels like. And that hurts! In the summer, spray some sunscreen along the line of your part to protect your scalp from a harsh sunburn.
