All this time spent in the sun or swimming the pool can be damaging to our hair, leaving it dry, frizzy, and brittle.   1. Start with a Rinse

The goal here is to minimize the amount of pool water that your hair soaks up. Before you jump in the pool, rinse your hair with fresh water from the shower. Your hair will absorb the harmless freshwater, protecting it from soaking up as much pool water.

  1. Apply a Moisturizing Conditioner

Again, this is done with the idea of protection in mind. Apply a small amount of a moisturizing condition to your hair before swimming in the pool. Avoid using a protein based product as they should not be in your hair for longer than 10 minutes at a time.

  1. Rinse Immediately

When you are done swimming, you should rinse your hair as soon as possible. The longer the harsh chlorinated pool water sits in your hair, the more damage it will do. Spending 4-6 minutes thoroughly rinsing your hair with fresh water. Once you are sure all the pool water is rinsed out, reapply a moisturizing conditioner.

Finally, find a nice patch of shade next to the pool and let your hair air-dry. Swimming in the pool likely stripped your hair of essential minerals and oils, which can leave it vulnerable to the sun’s harsh UV rays.
